Just a little quick fact about myself before we get into the story. I’m a drummer. Been playing for 10 years now and since I started, I hated reading music. When the DDR craze was rampant in living rooms across America, I wanted something similar for drumming. There were some arcade machines where one could do just that, but it never felt very natural. When Karaoke Revolution came out, I wondered what would happen if they made a game where you could sing AND dance. Then
Harmonix released the gem, Guitar Hero. I wondered why nobody had put these all together. Then came a glorious article a few months ago. (I should really start pateneting my ideas.) My dreams had materialized, made possible by none other than Harmonix. During E3 2007, I got to see Rock Star in action. Never have I wanted a game so badly. The only dissapointment was there was no price estimate on the hardware required to play the game. But that was then. 2 days ago, www.gametrialers.com got a tip. The inside tip came from the same person that informed us of the 360’s new HDMI slot. The mic, the new guitar, and the drumset along with the game will be available for $199.99. Unfortunate news for XBoX360 owners though, they will not recieve the wireless guitar. PS3 and the Wii will recieve wireless guitars for the same price though the Wii version of the game won’t be released until after the PS3 and Xbox360 counterparts. You can expect to pick up your 20 pounds of gaming bliss November 3, 2007.
Ubuntu’s popularity has been booming as of late. The hardware giant, Dell, may also have something to do with that. A few months ago Dell began shipping Ubuntu preinstalled on some of their laptops. As the weeks passed, they were able to release even more platforms for the snappy operating system to be shipped with. Personally, I’ve got my eyes on a white Inspiron 1420N. Anyway, Europe, our friend “across the pond”, is heavily saturated with linux users but have not been able to enjoy seamless “out of the box” hardware operation with Linux because Dell was not shipping overseas. That is until late. Dell has now formally announced that it will be shipping over seas, thus expanding it’s market and promoting free software. To see their officiall announcement, head on over here.
Have a Linksys router? I’m sorry. Never fear though, I found 2 hacks you can perform to turn your cheap Wal-Mart router into a serious network-traffic cop. Hack one: Have complete control of your traffic, bandwidth and security by simply upgrading firmware. It’s a two step process that is easily accomplished by following the step provided here. Hack Attack: Turn your $60 Router into a $600 Router. Hack two is if you’re comfortable soldering or want an afternoon project. POE or Power Over Ethernet is a technology that allows the router to operate off of the power supplied by the network cable. For full directions and hi-res pictures, navigate your way over here and enjoy having your wireless router in the middle of your home regardless of where the power outlet is. DIY internal POE.
